Ashtanga is a sequence of postures taught in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. It synchronizes breath and movement through a set series of asanas (postures), which, practiced correctly, can lead to abundant health as the combination of breath and movement creates intense heat within the body, and as such rids the body of toxins, removes impurities, and creates vibrant physical, mental and spiritual wellness. Such physical purification creates mental clarity and awareness in all aspects of our personality (this being the subtler, and beautiful, benefits of Ashtanga Yoga) .
Full primary series is called Yoga Chikitsa or “Yoga Therapy” as it focuses on asanas that purify the body and restore health. The asanas are arranged in a sequential order with each posture building on the previous one, strengthening and returning the body to a state of balance. The series lasts for approximately 1.5 hours and as such this is why Full primary Series classes are this length of time. The practice takes you on a journey consisting of; warm up vinyasas, standing and seated postures which include binds, twists, inversions and openings, held together with linking vinyasas. The series ends with a closing sequence. The practice is great for bulding both strength & flexibility through the entire body. The sequence continuously builds strength & systematically releases deeper & deeper into each part of the body. After practice you will feel stretched in every part of your body, your stamina will increase, your muscles will be toned, you will feel taller & will have a new sense of awareness & strength within your body as well a sensation of calm and peace within your mind. Full Primary classes are led and fully counted by the teacher, adjustments are made throughout to ensure correct alignment, posture placement and to encourage full openings so you will be safe within your own practice.
